Resume fraud has become a growing concern for employers worldwide. This practice involves hopeful employees fabricating their resumes to secure jobs, even though the information provided on the resume is inaccurate. 

In this case, Keller was contacted following a hotline tip that provided information that a company executive had committed resume fraud, fabricating information about their educational background and work experience.  

The Investigation

Following the hotline tip, Kreller was tasked with conducting a thorough due diligence corporate investigation to discreetly verify and confirm all information on the resume provided at the time of hire. We took the correct measures to verify their claimed educational credentials, employment history, and professional references. 

Key Findings

After the corporate investigation, our due diligence efforts revealed that the executive’s provided accounting degree was fraudulent and that several former employees included inaccurate titles, dates, and salaries. Because the evidence found demonstrated that the executive had intentionally fabricated his resume and information during the hiring process, the executive was immediately dismissed. 

Conclusion

While securing an established job with the proper pay and benefits may be challenging, there are other answers than fabricating a resume. Employers must be aware of this tactic and perform background checks, verify educational claims, and speak to the references listed on the resume. This may add an extra burden to the employer; however, understanding these risks and taking the correct measures can protect the employer and the company from any negative impacts that may come to light due to the deceitful practice.
